This is the first
ever Fink Five, an unashamedly opinionated digest of the five
best, most interesting or most unusual music videos that Ive
happened to stumble across in the preceding month. Priority is generally
given to work that is likely to have less exposure in mainstream media.
But that doesn't mean you won't see a fantastic video from the big
hitters here.
If you like what you see, check out
the regular source links directly below for much more of the same
kind of stuff.

Anxiety
Attack - Jeffrey Lewis
directed: Jérôme Derathé Emotive,
microbudget video based on overlapping images and compressed
time. It speaks of that beleaguered state of semi-conscious
restlessness that plagues the insomniac and fits tightly with
Lewis's 'stream-of-anxiety' lyrics.
Aranda
- Ego Express
directed: Timo Schierhorn Minimalism
taken to the extreme. The relentlessness of the landscape,
the relentlessness of the shot and what seems like a supernatural
fit with the music and lyrics makes this a must watch.
Pony
Part One- Vitalic
directed: Pleix More minimalism from Pleix. Apparently,
not a commissioned video this, but a pet project(!) Super
slo-mo cameras and airborne canines - sometimes cute, sometimes
savage. Simple, elegant and visually stunning.
Carrier
Bag- Kid Carpet
directed: Bob Blunden This is a tongue in cheek choreographed
dance video, presumably made on a shoestring. Cheeky editing,
a distinct visual signature and a great central performance
give this an effortless, leftfield charm.
Nuke
Proof Suit - Jehst
directed: The Beta Brothers A series of totally hammy skits
on daytime TV, consumer culture and the like. It's way over-the-top,
full of daft energy and irreverent fun.
